The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is working alongside the government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to support a nationwide vaccination campaign aimed at more than 800,000 children and 120,000 pregnant women who have missed out on vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative, supported by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, has already delivered over 4 million doses of vital vaccines, including Measles-Rubella, Tetanus-Diphtheria, Hepatitis B, and Polio.
UNICEF has not only provided vaccines but also supplied necessary equipment like freezers and fridges to ensure the effectiveness of the vaccines even in remote areas. More than 7,200 health workers have been trained to manage vaccination campaigns and handle any potential reactions to the vaccines.
Furthermore, UNICEF is overseeing the delivery and administration of vaccines while tracking coverage to guarantee the success of the campaign. With their support, the DPRK’s Ministry of Public Health is working to ensure that all children and pregnant women in need receive the essential vaccinations to protect their health.
