Unfulfilled Promise: Indian Doctor Murdered, Safety of Physicians Compromised

Five years ago, the West Bengal government vowed to enhance security and protection for doctors in public hospitals to prevent violence. However, these promises have yet to materialize, leaving medical staff vulnerable to attacks.

Recently, a tragic incident occurred at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, where a young female doctor was sexually assaulted and murdered by a police volunteer. Shockingly, only two male guards were stationed at the facility, with limited CCTV coverage, failing to provide adequate security measures.

The lack of action from the government has sparked national outrage and led to a strike by doctors across the country. Trainee doctors at the hospital have expressed their concerns over the unsafe working conditions and the need for urgent security upgrades to prevent future tragedies.
