Former deputy chief of staff Linda Sun from New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s office faces charges of collaborating with the Chinese government to advance pro-Beijing messaging. Sun and her husband, Chris Hu, were arrested for allegedly influencing policy decisions to align with the Chinese Communist Party’s interests, as well as laundering millions of dollars.
Prosecutors claim Sun used her position to block Taiwanese politicians’ access, alter official messaging to mirror CCP’s stance, and issue unauthorized invitations to Chinese officials who entered the US illegally. The couple reportedly received millions from China, which Hu used to buy properties and a Ferrari. Family in China allegedly benefited from business help, event tickets, and gourmet food deliveries.
Hochul’s office stated Sun was terminated upon discovering misconduct and has cooperated with law enforcement. The Chinese government has not responded to the allegations, citing Western attempts to discredit China. Sun’s case adds to other Democrats, like Feinstein and Swalwell, implicated in spying scandals involving China.
