Tragedy struck in DR Congo as 129 people lost their lives and 59 others were injured in a violent prison break attempt. The incident took place at Makala prison in the capital city of Kinshasa. Interior Minister Shabani Lukoo confirmed the heartbreaking news early Tuesday.

Lukoo reported, “The provisional toll stands at 129 dead, with 24 killed by gunfire and others succumbing to injuries from the chaos of the break. Additionally, 59 individuals are receiving medical treatment from the government for their injuries.”
