In a recent development, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren met with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to discuss the upcoming assembly polls. This meeting comes in the wake of former Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren’s resignation from the JMM and subsequent joining of the BJP, citing dissatisfaction with the party’s functioning.
The meeting, described as a courtesy call by Soren, also touched upon preparations for the upcoming assembly polls scheduled later this year. Notably, Champai Soren had briefly held the position of chief minister following Hemant Soren’s resignation due to an arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case.
The Congress and JMM are allies in the current government in Jharkhand. The meeting between Soren, Kharge, and Gandhi indicates a strengthening of ties between the two parties ahead of the crucial polls.
