Ellen Keane concluded her illustrious Paralympic career with a sixth-place finish in the 100m backstroke heat at La Defense Arena. Despite finishing fourth in the butterfly final last week, Keane faced tough competition in the S9 event, with only the top eight advancing to the final.
Swimming in lane one, Keane posted a time of 1:17.63, finishing 12th overall in her final race. She expressed pride in her performance and reflected on the joy of swimming care-free. Her emotional farewell marked the end of a remarkable journey that began when she made her Paralympic debut at just 13.
In other events, Róisín Ní Riaín progressed to the 200m individual medley final, aiming for further success after winning silver in the backstroke. Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Barry McClements advanced to the 100m breaststroke final, while Nicole Turner and Dearbhaile Brady also progressed in the women’s S9 50m butterfly.
