Brittany Higgins sued for speaking out about alleged rape, court told
Brittany Higgins has been sued for speaking up about her alleged rape in parliament house, advocating for change, as her lawyer disclosed at a defamation trial.

Higgins is in a legal battle with Senator Linda Reynolds over social media posts believed to have harmed the former defence minister’s reputation.

Rachael Young, Higgins’ lawyer, highlighted the lack of agency Higgins had during and after the alleged rape, refuting claims that she planned to harm Senator Reynolds.

Higgins' lawyer told a Perth court the senator communicated with Lehrmann's defence Steve Whybrow before and during his aborted criminal trial.

Young emphasized Higgins’ decision to speak out in 2021 to prevent similar trauma in the future, insisting that the defamation lawsuit should be dismissed.
