Botswana election scheduled for 30 Oct

Botswana election scheduled for 30 Oct

Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi announced that the country will hold general elections on 30 October. The names of presidential candidates must be submitted by 28 September, and parliamentary and local council candidates by 4 October. Botswana, a multi-party democracy, holds general elections every five years.

President Masisi, seeking a second term, declared 30 and 31 October as public holidays for voting. Parliament will dissolve on 5 September. The ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) confirmed Masisi as its candidate, pledging job creation and economic prosperity in their manifesto.

In the upcoming election, Masisi will compete against Duma Boko and Dumelang Saleshando. Since taking office, concerns regarding corruption have emerged, although Botswana boasts a strong economy driven mainly by diamond exports, making it one of Africa’s most financially stable nations.
