Breaking News: Arrest Warrant Issued for Venezuelan Presidential Candidate Edmundo González Urrutia
A Venezuelan court has issued an arrest warrant for former presidential candidate Edmundo González Urrutia, who the opposition claims won the July 28th polls with 67% of the vote. This comes after the National Electoral Council announced incumbent Nicolás Maduro as the winner with 52% support, a result later validated by the Supreme Court at Maduro’s request.
The arrest warrant was issued due to González Urrutia’s failure to appear for questioning and is under investigation for various offenses. The opposition has alleged electoral fraud, providing evidence to support González Urrutia’s victory.
Attorney General Tarek William Saab has accused González Urrutia of inciting violence and posing a flight risk, leading to the arrest warrant.
