South Darfur secures harvest with new measures

In South Darfur State, Sudan, authorities are taking security measures to protect farmers during the upcoming harvest season. Agriculture Minister Mohamed Ahmed Dafallah responded to concerns from farmers about repeated attacks by herders by forming a high-level committee to secure the agricultural season.

The committee, which includes Civilian Protection Forces, will work under the supervision of the civilian government to prevent attacks on farms. Dafallah acknowledged the challenges they face, including a lack of resources.

Farmers like Adam Abdul Rahman Ahmed and Halima Mohammed have expressed their concerns about the safety of their crops. Ahmed highlighted the issue of livestock owners shooting on farms, while Mohammed mentioned planting smaller areas due to security and economic conditions.

With the support of the government, farmers are hopeful that this year’s harvest season will be better protected. By addressing these recurring problems, authorities aim to ensure a successful and secure agricultural season for all.
