Peru to Surpass Chile in Agri Exports

Peru is on track to surpass Chile in agricultural exports, marking a significant shift in the industry. While Chile only saw a 2.4% increase in agricultural export growth from 2012 to 2022, Peru experienced a remarkable surge of 10.1%. Experts predict that by 2027, Peru’s agricultural exports may exceed those of Chile.

According to data from the Peruvian Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), Chile’s exports reached $10.664 billion by the end of 2022, while Peru set a new record with $7.557 billion. Forecasts suggest that by 2027, Peru could export agricultural goods worth $12.210 billion, surpassing Chile’s projected $12.009 billion.

The upward trend in Peruvian exports is apparent, with agricultural exports reaching $3.518 billion from January to May this year, showing a 0.2% increase from the previous year.

Peru has already surpassed Chile in exporting blueberries, avocados, and grapes, establishing itself as a strong competitor in the industry. With Chile facing challenges related to water resource management, Peru’s diverse array of exported products, including citrus fruits, mangos, olives, and more, demonstrate its strategic resource management and adaptability in the global agricultural export race.
