TNLA to Block Unaccredited Journalists from Covering Parliamentary Proceedings
The Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) announced that, starting Tuesday, unaccredited journalists will be blocked from covering parliamentary proceedings. This decision was made following a directive from the Media Authority, responsible for overseeing media operations in the country.
Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for Information, Oliver Mori Benjamin, emphasized that only journalists accredited by the Media Authority will have access to cover the House’s plenary sessions. This new measure will be effective from September 3, 2024.
Benjamin highlighted the importance of authenticity, mentioning that accredited journalists will undergo a verification process at the gate to ensure the security code on their press cards aligns with their information.
The Media Authority has provided a list of 116 accredited journalists, and Benjamin urged all reporters visiting the parliament to present their accreditation cards for access. This accreditation is aimed at recognizing working journalists and media practitioners within the country.
With these new regulations in place, TNLA aims to streamline media coverage and ensure high-quality reporting from accredited professionals.
