Monsoon floods in India claim lives, displace thousands | Floods News

The Indian Air Force rushes rescue officers and emergency aid to flood-devastated Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states, where at least 25 have lost their lives.

After intense monsoon rains wreak havoc in southern India, resulting in widespread flooding, officials confirm the death toll and ongoing rescue efforts. Telangana state reports 16 casualties, while Andhra Pradesh records nine deaths over two days. The downpour has caused significant damage, with over 400mm of rainfall in just 24 hours, leading to the evacuation of thousands to relief camps.

The Telangana government is seeking central assistance and has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the affected regions. Around 3,800 individuals have been rescued and relocated to safety so far. In response, the Indian Air Force dispatches over 200 rescue officers and 30 tonnes of aid to the impacted areas.

Experts attribute the recent extreme weather events to climate change, with Gujarat also facing heavy rains that claimed 28 lives last week. As the region braces for more erratic weather patterns, neighboring countries like Bangladesh remain on high alert following deadly floods earlier this year.
