Hong Kong police are on the lookout for a man who robbed a mainland Chinese woman at knifepoint in her hotel room, taking HK$15,000 (US$2,000) in the New Territories. The incident occurred in Tin Shui Wai, where the woman reported the robbery to authorities.
The suspect, described as a 1.8m tall middle-aged man wearing a face mask and glasses, entered the woman’s room around 12.42am and left at approximately 1.23am. The victim was unharmed but handed over the cash as demanded by the perpetrator.
A preliminary investigation suggested the woman might have been a sex worker, and the robber her client. Detectives are now investigating the case, which comes after a recent police operation targeting a prostitution syndicate that brought mainland sex workers into the city.
Triad-related crimes in Hong Kong have seen a 5.2% increase this year, pointing to ongoing issues with organized crime in the region.
