Kano closes 2 schools, fines N10m – The Guardian Nigeria

The Kano State government has taken decisive action against private schools operating in dilapidated structures. Ibn-Mashuud Secondary School and Matasha Private Secondary School have been immediately closed, while Crescent International School faces a hefty N10 million fine for violating laws.

The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board, Alh. Baba Umar, highlighted that legal action led to these sanctions. Magistrates’ Court orders have mandated the closure of the two schools due to their unsafe conditions.

Umar emphasized that the board will not tolerate unlawful operations in private and voluntary schools, revealing that 189 schools have failed to complete the validation exercise. He warned that further prosecution awaits any non-compliant institutions.

With the governor’s approval, Umar is determined to clean up the education sector in Kano State. His commitment to enforcing regulations signals a new era of compliance and safety for students in private schools.
