Gaza children prioritize peace over vaccines: WHO

The UN World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes the importance of peace in saving Palestinian children in Gaza during a polio vaccination campaign. WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that while children in Gaza are receiving polio vaccines, the ultimate solution for their well-being is peace.

Amid daily eight-hour pauses in Israeli strikes, health workers are vaccinating hundreds of thousands of Palestinian children against polio. The campaign aims to vaccinate 640,000 children under 10 years old in different regions of Gaza.

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) echoed the call for a ceasefire, emphasizing the need for peace to protect children in the region. Efforts are ongoing to provide children with vital vaccines, as at least 90% vaccination coverage is required to prevent the spread of polio.

Foreign Policy raised concerns about the challenges in vaccination efforts due to ongoing conflict and highlighted the importance of controlling polio in Gaza to protect vulnerable populations, including unvaccinated Israeli ultra-Orthodox children.

Ultimately, achieving peace is crucial to ensuring the health and safety of children in Gaza amid the ongoing conflicts and public health challenges.
