In the aftermath of the recent synagogue attack and political turmoil in France, Michel Cohen Tenoudji, a prominent Jewish leader, expressed his concern about the future of French Jewry and the stability of the French Republic in an exclusive interview with The Jerusalem Post.
Cohen Tenoudji, the Central Consistory vice president, highlighted the shock and outrage within the Jewish community following the arson terrorist attack on the Beth Yaacov synagogue in southern France. This incident, along with a significant increase in antisemitic incidents in the country, has fueled fears among French Jews about their future in France.
Despite the government’s efforts to protect its Jewish citizens, Cohen Tenoudji pointed out the challenges posed by political uncertainty and the rise of extremist ideologies like anti-Zionism. He emphasized the need for greater regulation of radicalism on social networks and combating antisemitism on university campuses.
While acknowledging the threats faced by French Jewry, Cohen Tenoudji remained optimistic, stating that “the Jewish people are resilient” in the face of adversity.
