Former Pharmaceutical Company Employee Denies Poisoning Wife with Methanol
A former employee of a pharmaceutical company, Keisuke Yoshida, pleaded not guilty to allegedly poisoning his wife with methanol in 2022. Yoshida, who was a senior researcher at Daiichi Sankyo, denied any involvement in his wife’s death during the trial at the Tokyo District Court.
The prosecution claimed that Yoshida poisoned his wife, Yoko, by using methanol, which was found in a pack of shо̄chu she drank. However, Yoshida’s defense team argued that his wife took the methanol on her own and that there was no evidence linking him to the poisoning.
The trial is set to last for 14 days, with the final ruling expected on October 30. Prosecutors believe that the motive behind the alleged murder was the couple’s strained relationship, ruling out suicide or the involvement of a third party in Yoko’s death.
