CODER urges Tinubu to release #EndBadGovernance detainees

The Coalition for Democratic Accountability and Electoral Reforms (CODER) has made a bold demand for the immediate release of all individuals detained during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests in Nigeria. Led by Chief Peter Ameh, CODER addressed President Bola Tinubu in a poignant letter dated September 2, 2024, urging the government to address the root causes of the protests, which include corruption, inequality, and social injustice.

Expressing deep concern over the unjust detention of peaceful protesters advocating for a better Nigeria, CODER emphasized that such actions infringe upon their fundamental human rights and suppress dissenting voices. The group highlighted the significance of the right to peaceful assembly, as recognized by international and regional instruments, emphasizing the need for accountability and change.

As the detained individuals await justice, CODER emphasized the government’s obligation to uphold citizens’ rights and listen to their grievances. The letter reminded the authorities of the importance of respecting the principles of democracy and the power of protest in shaping a more just and equitable society.
