Biden criticizes Netanyahu’s inaction on Gaza hostage deal.

U.S. President Joe Biden criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for not doing enough to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas. Amid protests in Israel, Biden met with U.S. negotiators to discuss a potential deal after the deaths of six captives, including an American citizen, in Gaza. The president stated that negotiators were close to presenting a final proposal to Israel and Hamas.

Biden’s revised schedule made time for the meeting with negotiators, which also included Vice President Kamala Harris. The U.S., along with Egypt and Qatar, has been working towards a hostage-prisoner exchange and cease-fire in Gaza. Despite some hostages being released during a previous truce, many remain in captivity.

Hostage relatives and advocates have urged Netanyahu’s government to take more action, accusing them of not prioritizing the safe return of captives. With thousands of Palestinians dead in the conflict, pressure is mounting for a resolution to the hostage situation and a ceasefire to be implemented.
