During a meeting with US negotiators, President Joe Biden criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for not doing enough to secure a deal for the release of hostages held by Palestinian armed group Hamas. This came after the deaths of six captives, including an American citizen, in Gaza. Biden, along with Vice President Kamala Harris, discussed efforts to secure the release of the remaining hostages, following the murder of American citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin and others by Hamas.
Union strike halted
Militants took 251 hostages during the October 7 attack on Israel, sparking a war. An Israeli court halted a union strike aimed at pressuring Netanyahu’s government to secure the release of remaining captives. Criticism has been directed at the administration for not doing enough to bring back the captives alive. In addition to hostage-taking, Hamas’s attack resulted in the deaths of 1,205 people, mostly civilians, and over 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
