Ukraine urges US for approval of more extensive strikes on Russia

Ukrainian President Urges US to Allow Strikes on Russian Military Targets

President Zelenskiy of Ukraine is pushing for permission from the United States to strike Russian military targets deep within Russian territory. He made this plea after his representatives met with senior US officials in Washington. Despite receiving over $50 billion in military aid since 2022, Ukraine is restricted in how it can use the weapons provided by the US.

Zelenskiy highlighted recent civilian casualties caused by Russian airstrikes in Kharkiv, emphasizing the need for offensive measures to prevent further attacks. He called on the US, along with other key allies, to grant Ukraine the capabilities to protect its citizens effectively.

During the visit to Washington, Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov stressed the importance of receiving the necessary resources to defend against Russian aggression. President Zelenskiy plans to present a strategic plan for victory to President Biden and attend UN meetings in New York next month.

Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko also discussed the urgent need to restore Ukraine’s energy system, which has been severely impacted by Russian air strikes.
