Reasons behind KFOR’s renewed presence in Mitrovica?

The international community is expressing concern over escalating tensions in Kosovo due to actions taken by the Kosovo government without negotiation with Belgrade. NATO’s peacekeeping mission, KFOR, has increased its presence on the main bridge in Mitrovica following the shutdown of Serbian institutions in northern Kosovo.

The United States embassy in Kosovo warned that such actions damage their partnership and undermine Kosovo’s reputation. The EU also criticized Kosovo’s lack of coordination with international partners and warned of jeopardizing people’s security.

Kosovo’s President accuses the EU of bias towards Serbia and claims Serbia has violated agreements. The closure of Serbian institutions and the halted opening of the Ibar bridge are expected to be key issues in future negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo.

Many speculate that Kosovo’s actions are in response to pressure from the US and EU. The upcoming dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is likely to focus on resolving these tensions.
