Poland’s largest private ammunition producer, Grupa Niewiadów, is set to build a high-caliber ammunition factory in Niewiadów, Łódź Voivodeship. With an annual production capacity of 180,000 shells, the $60 million investment will cater to the growing demand for 155mm artillery shells, essential for NATO forces and Poland’s military equipment.
The Significance of 155mm Ammunition
In light of the conflict in Ukraine, the need for 155mm caliber ammunition has become crucial, with daily consumption reaching 10,800 shells for Ukrainian forces. Poland’s plan to equip its troops with up to 1,000 howitzers further drives the demand for these munitions.
Grupa Niewiadów’s project involves reviving old infrastructure to establish a modern production line and research center. While initially partnering with international companies, the aim is to eventually produce ammunition based on Polish designs.
Employment and Innovation
The new factory will create 210 jobs, with a focus on advanced ammunition technologies and ballistic testing. This investment not only boosts Poland’s defense industry but also aligns with its military modernization efforts.
