BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 1. The extraordinary parliamentary election in Azerbaijan has been praised for its transparency and organization by international observers. Lamin Sanneh from Gambia commended the government for strengthening democracy through the election process, noting that voters were able to freely express their will.
President Ilham Aliyev dissolved the sixth convocation of the Azerbaijani Parliament and scheduled the election on September 1. With over 6.4 million registered voters and 6,478 polling stations, including locations in territories liberated from occupation and for internally displaced persons, the election is set to be a significant event.
A total of 990 candidates, including representatives from 25 political parties, are vying for seats in parliament. The use of webcams at polling stations and portable ballot boxes aims to ensure transparency and fairness during the voting process.
Exit polls will be conducted by international organizations, and over 112,000 local observers will monitor the election. With high voter turnout expected, including first-time voters and elderly citizens, the extraordinary parliamentary election in Azerbaijan promises to be a pivotal moment in the country’s democratic journey.
