The Mumbai Police have increased security in response to the Maha Vikas Aghadi’s (MVA) planned protest march following the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue.
The MVA is set to hold a protest march today, starting from Hutatma Chowk and ending at the Gateway of India. Police and other security personnel have been stationed throughout the city to maintain order.
The 35-foot-tall statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg district collapsed on August 26. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray criticized the BJP-led Mahayuti government for the statue’s collapse at Rajkot Fort, questioning the reasons behind it.
Youth Congress leaders were detained in Mumbai while demanding a public apology from PM Modi over the statue’s collapse. PM Modi expressed regret over the incident, stating his reverence for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Chetan Patil, the structural consultant for the collapsed statue, was arrested. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde announced swift action to reconstruct the statue, with committees formed for investigation.
An official statement from the Indian Navy mentioned the formation of a technical committee to investigate the damage to the statue, considering weather conditions as a factor.
