After the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) recovered the bodies of six prisoners held captive since October 7th from a tunnel in Rafah, Hamas responded by accusing Israel of killing them with airstrikes. Senior Hamas official Izzat Al-Rishq also criticized the US for supporting Israel in the conflict in Gaza.
Al-Rishq emphasized that Hamas values the lives of its prisoners more than Israel and emphasized the group’s willingness to accept proposals for peace. However, he blamed Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu for hindering any progress toward a resolution.
The IDF identified the bodies of Carmel Gat, Eden Yerushalmi, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Alexander Lobanov, Almog Sarusi, and Ori Danin, confirming that they had been killed by Hamas before their recovery.
Hamas’s claims of Israeli airstrikes causing the deaths are in contrast to the IDF’s findings, leading to increased tension between the two sides. The ongoing conflict in Gaza continues to escalate despite international efforts for peace.
