Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expanded the reach of free healthcare services in the state to benefit 100,000 individuals, up from the initial 68,874. This decision aligns with his “Rivers people first” ideology, showcasing his dedication to the welfare of the residents.
Dr. Vetty Agala, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP), emphasized the need for increased enrollment during a recent sensitization program. Only 37,000 individuals have signed up so far, prompting a call for local government councils to collaborate with RIVCHPP to facilitate more enrollments.
The scheme, a social health insurance initiative, aims to provide quality healthcare services to all residents, irrespective of their financial status. With a focus on bridging the healthcare gap between the wealthy and the less privileged, the state government aims for universal health coverage for all Rivers people.
Dr. Agala plans to introduce tailored policies for civil servants, adjusting premium rates based on their salary levels. Through collaboration with stakeholders, including ward and Community Development Committees, RIVCHPP aims for maximum enrollment in the program.
