US President Joe Biden expressed his devastation and outrage upon learning about the rescue of six hostages from Gaza, including American citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin. The hostages were found in a tunnel under Rafah and returned to Israel. Hersh was tragically killed by Hamas terrorists during a music festival for peace in Israel. Biden commended Hersh’s parents for their courage and strength in the face of unimaginable loss.
He vowed that Hamas leaders would be held accountable for their crimes and emphasized his support for the Goldberg-Polin family. Vice President Kamala Harris also extended her prayers to the family, condemning Hamas as an evil terrorist organization with American blood on its hands.
Further responses
Secretary of State Anthony Blinken hailed Hersh as an American hero and called for the immediate release of the remaining hostages. US Ambassador to Israel Jack Lew echoed Biden and Blinken’s statements, pledging to not rest until all hostages are safely brought home.
