The US Government has expressed concern and disappointment over the uncoordinated actions taken by the Government of Kosovo, which have negatively impacted minority communities, including the Serbian community. The US Embassy in Kosovo stated that the Kosovo police carried out operations against institutions supported by Serbia without coordination with the international community.
The US and its partners urge Kosovo to prioritize coordination with the international community and not take unilateral actions on issues under EU dialogue. The instrumentalization of the Kosovo Police for uncoordinated actions by the Government of Kosovo is straining partnerships and affecting cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, James O’Brien, emphasized the need for restraint and coordination to prevent violence. The US calls on Prime Minister Kurti and his government to consult with the international community and refrain from actions that harm partnerships.
This escalation could jeopardize Kosovo’s reputation as a reliable international partner and increase regional tensions. Dialogue and cooperation with the international community remain crucial for peace and stability in the region.
