US Military Facility in Deir ez-Zur targeted by Rocket Attack – World news

Reports of a rocket attack on a US military facility in Syria’s Deir ez-Zur province have raised tensions in the region. The attack targeted the US-controlled Conoco gas field, with explosions reported after multiple rockets hit the site. Fortunately, there were no immediate casualties or damage to the installation as US forces activated missile defense systems in response.

This incident is part of a series of attacks carried out by Iraqi resistance forces on US military installations in the region, reflecting growing anti-US sentiment fueled by Washington’s support for Israel’s actions in Gaza. With nearly 2,500 troops in Iraq and 900 in Syria, the US presence in the region continues to face opposition despite the defeat of ISIS in 2017.

Following the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi commander Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis in 2020, the Iraqi parliament voted to expel US forces. These ongoing incidents highlight the complex geopolitical dynamics at play in the Middle East.
