US Secretary of Defense Condemns Russia’s Attacks on Ukraine, Pledges Support
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin denounced Russia’s recent assaults on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine during a meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov at the Pentagon. Austin reaffirmed the US’s steadfast backing for Ukraine in the face of escalating aggression from Moscow.
Austin assured ongoing American leadership in providing Ukraine with vital defense resources to counter Russian incursions. He emphasized the importance of preserving civilian lives and expressed confidence in Ukraine’s ability to withstand Putin’s brutality.
Umerov commended the US for its support, highlighting its role in rallying international assistance for Ukraine. The meeting preceded an upcoming gathering of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in Germany, where allies and partners will discuss urgent military requirements, including enhanced air-defense systems.
The US recently announced a security aid package worth up to $125 million for Ukraine, underscoring its commitment to bolster the country’s defenses against Russian aggression.
