Pakistan has reported its fourth case of monkeypox, with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province confirming its third case. The patient, a returnee from abroad, was detected with the virus in Peshawar and is now being treated at Services Hospital. This brings the total monkeypox cases in Pakistan to four, with all three cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Pakistani health ministry has issued new guidelines for airport authorities to enhance screening, isolation, and other preventive measures to halt the spread of the virus. Earlier in August, the WHO declared an international health emergency due to a surge in monkeypox cases, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Monkeypox is a viral infection that can be transmitted from animals to humans, as well as through human-to-human contact. Symptoms include fever, muscle pain, and skin lesions, with severe cases leading to death. The WHO is closely monitoring the situation and emphasizing the importance of controlling outbreaks to prevent further spread.
