Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa extended the state of emergency in six provinces and one canton due to criminal violence. The measure was extended for 30 days in Los Rios, Guayas, Santa Elena, Manabi, El Oro, Orellana, and Camilo Ponce Enríquez. The decree aims to enhance security measures by the National Police and Armed Forces in these regions.

Noboa also maintained a curfew from 10 pm to 5 am in 19 cantons and one parish affected by rising crime. The decree highlighted the ongoing violent acts, declaring an “internal armed conflict” against organized crime groups. Measures to tackle crime include militarizing prisons and reducing violent deaths.

Healthcare, security, law enforcement, news media, and Judiciary workers are exempt from the curfew. Exceptions are made for individuals traveling for flights or airport-related activities during curfew hours with proper justification.
