Australian director Justin Kurzel is back with his latest film, The Order, which premiered at the Venice film festival. The movie follows the hunt for a neo-Nazi militia group in the early 80s led by fanatics determined to put their white supremacist agenda into action. Jude Law stars as FBI agent Terry Husk, scarred from battling the KKK and the mob, alongside Tye Sheridan as a local cop.
Nicholas Hoult takes on a chilling role as Bob Mathews, a charismatic villain with a ruthless plan to establish an all-white utopia. The film dives deep into the dark world of American neo-Nazis and the violence they propagate, drawing parallels to contemporary extremism.
The Order captivates with its intense action sequences and brooding atmosphere, though it falters at times with clichéd moments and underdeveloped female characters. Visually striking, the film captures the bleakness of early 80s America through Adam Arkapaw’s cinematography.
With powerhouse performances from Law and Hoult, The Order offers a gripping look at the historical roots of American fascism and the individuals who fight against it. Watch out for this riveting true-crime drama when it hits US theaters on December 6.
