A recent statement by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Mrs Folasade Akinrinmola, has brought attention to the issue of gender discrimination within the party’s leadership in Ekiti State. Akinrinmola expressed disappointment in the composition of the 19-member caretaker committee for the state chapter, which only included two women out of the total members.
Akinrinmola highlighted the lack of proper representation for women and criticized the PDP National Working Committee for not conducting thorough due diligence in selecting committee members. She called for a revision of the list to include at least six female members to ensure that women are adequately represented in the party’s leadership.
The former council chairman also raised concerns about the inclusion of members who had expressed interest in contesting, implying favoritism within the selection process. Akinrinmola urged the national leadership to rectify the situation promptly to prevent discouragement among women in the party.
