Former Justice Minister Cho Kuk, now the leader of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, was questioned by prosecutors on the issue of his nomination as an outside director of the Small and Medium Venture Business Administration (SMBA) while serving as a senior presidential secretary for civil affairs at the Blue House. The interrogation focused on Cho’s involvement in recommending Lee, a former lawmaker and founder of Eastar Jet, for the SMBA directorship. Cho stated that the appointment process followed standard procedures and denied any influence or involvement in Lee’s appointment. Despite questioning, Cho maintained that the investigation was biased and expressed hope that President Yoon Seok-youl and his wife, Kim Gun-hee, would also be investigated.

During the investigation, Cho emphasized that the probe was targeting former President Moon Jae-in and his family for the third year in a row, raising concerns about the fairness of the investigation. Cho’s symbolic gesture of holding a coffee cup with an upside-down question mark logo before the questioning was seen as a message to convey his stance. The coffee cup was from a local franchise known for using the upside-down question mark as its logo. This act was intended to send a message, according to Cho’s spokesperson. The questioning lasted about three hours and twenty minutes and Cho reiterated his innocence in all matters related to the investigation.
