The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories criticized Israel for justifying its military offensive in the West Bank. The UN official emphasized that Israel’s occupation in the region cannot be excused as self-defense under international law.
Francesca Albanese highlighted the International Court of Justice’s ruling that Israel’s presence in the occupied territories is unlawful. She condemned Israel’s manipulation of international law to maintain its aggression. The UN official stressed the need for Israel to withdraw from the occupied territories for genuine security.
Tensions are high in the West Bank due to the Israeli offensive in Gaza, which has resulted in numerous Palestinian casualties. The International Court of Justice has deemed Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land unlawful and called for the evacuation of settlements.
