Ukrainian Brigade Spokesman Walks Back Claim of Russian Control in Chasiv Yar

Andriy Polukhin, a spokesperson for the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo, recently corrected his earlier statement regarding Russian troops controlling 40 percent of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region. He admitted to making a mistake in his calculations, attributing it to a misunderstanding of the map.

According to Polukhin, Russian troops only control a part of Chasiv Yar up to the beginning of the Kanal district. He emphasized that this position hinders the Russians from approaching Ukrainian units without detection. If the town falls, Russian troops would gain a tactical advantage due to its elevated terrain overlooking neighboring cities and a crucial logistical route.

Chasiv Yar, located in eastern Donetsk, has faced heavy fighting, resulting in significant devastation. Ukrainian forces previously withdrew from the Kanal microdistrict due to the destruction of their positions. Reports indicate that Russian forces continue to advance towards strategic locations in the region.
