Transport ministers from Turkey, Iraq, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates are convening in Istanbul to discuss the ambitious $20 billion Development Road Project. This initiative aims to streamline the movement of goods from Asia to Europe via Iraq, particularly through the Grand Faw Port in Basra.
The project, unveiled last year, positions Iraq as a vital transportation hub, fostering economic growth and collaboration with neighboring countries. Turkish Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu emphasized the need to expedite the project’s progress, covering key aspects such as financing and management.
Amidst efforts to strengthen Iraq-Turkey relations, recent agreements have been reached, including joint initiatives in energy, trade, and water management. President Erdogan’s visit to Baghdad marked a significant milestone in combating the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), an organization deemed a terrorist threat by global entities.
As Iraq prepares to ban the PKK and advance the Development Road Project, Prime Minister al-Sudani highlights the pivotal role of the Grand Faw Port and plans for a cutting-edge industrial city.
