Tusk’s Government Under Fire for Low Teacher Salary Raises
Unfulfilled Promises
The promise of significant salary raises for teachers made by Donald Tusk’s government is facing backlash as only a 5% increase in the 2024 budget has been revealed. Education Minister Barbara Nowacka expressed disappointment on Polsat News, citing budget constraints inherited from previous administrations.
Budgetary Constraints
In December 2023, Tusk pledged a 30% raise for teachers which has not materialized. Nowacka is advocating for a 10% increase, still falling short of the promised amount. Even unions are criticizing the 5% raise as insufficient.
Nowacka recognized the challenges and the importance of teachers’ roles. She vowed to continue fighting for higher salaries but highlighted the need to consider the overall budget, including defense expenditures. Despite the obstacles, the push for better pay for teachers is ongoing.
