Former SYRIZA spokesperson Popi Tsapanidou was sworn in as state deputy of the main opposition party at the beginning of Friday’s session of the Plenary of the Parliament.
Tsapanidou became a deputy by replacing Othonas Iliopoulos on the list of SYRIZA’s State parliament candidates. This move effectively blocked the entry of Stefanos Kasselakis, the leader of SYRIZA, into the parliament.
During the same session, Athina Linou was expelled from the SYRIZA parliamentary group, becoming the 14th independent member of parliament in the current term. This expulsion leaves the main opposition party with 34 MPs.
In a recent parliamentary session, Popi Tsapanidou took on the role of state deputy for SYRIZA, replacing Othonas Iliopoulos. This strategic move prevented the entry of SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis into parliament. The expulsion of Athina Linou from the SYRIZA parliamentary group adds to the list of independent members in parliament, leaving the main opposition party with 34 MPs. These shifts in parliamentary dynamics highlight the evolving political landscape in Greece.
