The Foreign Office of Pakistan has categorically rejected the Afghan Taliban’s offer to mediate between Pakistan and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), calling it an insult to the victims of TTP’s brutal terrorist attacks. In a statement during a media briefing, FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that Pakistan has no intention of engaging in talks with the TTP, emphasizing that such mediation offers disregard the thousands of innocent lives lost to TTP violence.
This response comes after Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid suggested that the Taliban government could facilitate discussions between Pakistan and the TTP, downplaying the gravity of the TTP threat as an “internal matter” of Pakistan. The TTP’s continued presence in Afghanistan, from where it launches attacks in Pakistan, has strained relations between the two countries.
Ms. Baloch urged Afghan authorities to take action against the TTP and other terror groups operating from Afghan soil, threatening Pakistan’s security. She emphasized that Pakistan has provided evidence of Afghan-based individuals and groups involved in terrorist activities in Pakistan, as documented in independent reports.
