Google, in collaboration with the Uruguayan Government, laid the foundation stone for their upcoming data center in Pando, Uruguay. President Luis Lacalle Pou and other government officials attended the ceremony, showing their support for the project.

The data center, set to cost around US$ 850 million, is expected to be completed within 26 months. The project was hailed for its sustainability and potential for boosting the country’s economy.

With a focus on innovation and connectivity, Google sees Uruguay as a strategic partner. The facility will create job opportunities during construction and provide around 50 permanent jobs once operational.

This new data center will join Google’s global network of 28 facilities, serving a wide range of products such as YouTube, Gmail, and the search engine. The project, initially discussed during Tabaré Vázquez’s administration, finally came to fruition with Google’s commitment last year.
