Germany deported 28 Afghan nationals back to Afghanistan, the first deportation since the Taliban regained power in August 2021. The government cited security concerns for the move, with Interior Minister Nancy Faeser emphasizing the need for precaution.
These deportations followed a recent knife attack in Solingen involving a Syrian suspect who had evaded deportation. The suspect, linked to Daesh, is currently under investigation for murder and terrorist activities.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz has pledged to resume deportations of criminals from Afghanistan and Syria, highlighting the government’s efforts to tighten laws and make deportations easier.
Meanwhile, the Taliban government in Afghanistan has cut ties with the United Nations mission, citing propaganda and branding it as an “opposing side.”
