European Union Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the need for the EU to enhance its arms production capacities in the face of growing global threats, particularly Russia’s actions in Ukraine. Speaking at the GLOBESEC forum in Prague, von der Leyen highlighted the importance of Europe taking responsibility for its own protection.
Von der Leyen emphasized that while NATO remains crucial for collective defense, a stronger European pillar is necessary. She warned that Europe’s security efforts in the past may have been insufficient and urged a shift towards prioritizing security in all aspects of the union.
As tensions rise and risks increase, von der Leyen stressed the need for Europe to be vigilant and proactive in addressing security challenges. She called for a reorientation towards viewing the EU as a fundamental security project.
