China calls on foreign forces to cease illicit military presence in Syria

China Urges End to Illegal Military Presence in Syria

In a recent UN Security Council briefing on Syria, Chinese envoy Geng Shuang called for Israel to halt its attacks on Syria and for foreign forces to withdraw their illegal military presence in the region. Emphasizing the importance of respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Shuang urged all parties to exercise restraint to maintain regional stability.

China supports UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen’s efforts to facilitate dialogue between all parties involved, with the goal of achieving a political solution in line with Syrian-led principles. Shuang also highlighted the need for a secure environment to support a stable political process, endorsing Syria’s efforts to counter terrorism and urging international cooperation in fighting terrorist groups within the country.

Additionally, Shuang stressed the importance of humanitarian assistance in Syria, urging donors to fulfill their aid commitments and calling for the cessation of unilateral sanctions that hinder the country’s recovery efforts. Overall, China urges collaborative efforts to address the crisis in Syria, emphasizing the need for international cooperation and respect for Syrian sovereignty.
