In Armenia, if an employee takes up a new job during their forced idle time, the previous employer must pay the employee nine months’ salary. This was highlighted by Deputy Minister of Justice, Armenuhi Harutyunyan, during discussions on amendments to the Labor Code. If the idle period is less than nine months, the payment should be made for that specific duration. The current legislation allows for the calculation of idle time before a judicial decision, but this process can be lengthy, leading employees to seek new opportunities rather than wait.
In cases where a person transitions to a lower-paying job during idle time, the salary difference must be reimbursed. The bill proposing these changes was successfully approved by the parliamentary committee, offering protection and compensation for employees facing forced unemployment in Armenia.
