Political Turmoil in France: Calls for Macron’s Resignation
A recent poll commissioned by BFMTV has revealed that nearly half of the French population supports the proposal put forth by the Inflexible France party in the National Assembly, calling for the resignation of President Emmanuel Macron. The survey showed that 49% of respondents back the impeachment proceedings, while 50% are against it.
Interestingly, 64% of New Popular Front voters and half of National Unity Party supporters are in favor of the proposal. Despite this, 74% from both the right and left wings doubt that Macron will actually step down as a result.
As the country grapples with the aftermath of parliamentary elections, 63% hold Macron responsible for the delay in forming a new government. The survey also indicates a desire for a new Prime Minister, with Gabriel Attal as the preferred choice by 41% of respondents.
The situation has escalated to the point where Macron is under threat of invoking Article 68 of the constitution. In response, he has initiated fresh consultations to address the unprecedented political crisis facing the Fifth Republic.
