Ukraine Urges Mongolia to Arrest Putin During Visit
Ukraine has called on Mongolia to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin on an international warrant when he visits the country next week. Mongolia, being a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC), has an obligation to arrest Putin based on a warrant issued by the ICC in 2023 for alleged war crimes in Ukraine. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of executing the warrant, while Putin’s spokesperson dismissed the threat, citing a positive dialogue with Mongolia. This visit will mark Putin’s first trip to an ICC member state since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Russia has denied the allegations, claiming they are politically motivated. This development adds to the ongoing tensions in the region.
